Known issues: 1. SIS900 network card (Note: SIS191 has same problem, however, since Etherboot/gPXE does not support SIS191, this workaround won't work for SIS191): sis900 client does NOT work with pxelinux >=3.07 simple menu, it will hang like this: http://drbl.sf.net/screenshot/?in_path=/00_DRBL#xxx-sis900-client-hang.jpg you WON'T see this: http://drbl.sf.net/screenshot/?in_path=/00_DRBL#syslinux_drbl.jpg The client will hang before this. It's reported to: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2005-April/005030.html There *IS* a workaround (Thanks to Alexander Heinz for providing that in syslinux mailing list): 1. Install DRBL version 1.5.8-1 or newer one, finish all the setup. 2. Find your SIS900 Clients' MAC vendor prefix, for example, if their MAC addresses are AA:BB:CC:DD:XX:YY, the MAC vendor prefix is AA:BB:CC. 3. Modify the file /etc/dhcpd.conf (RH-like) or /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf (Debian based): --------------------------------------------------------- #if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 3) = "PXE" { # # ************************************************************** # # ***MODIFY*** the MAC vendor prefix of client network card here. # # ************************************************************** # # For annoying sis900 network card, maybe it's 00:07:95, 00:0C:6E... # if substring (hardware, 1, 3) = 00:0C:6E { # # eb-5.4.3-etherboot-pci.zpxe is a all-in-one pxe image, works for most NIC. # # sis900.zpxe is specially for sis900 NIC. # # Try either one. # #filename = "eb-5.4.3-etherboot-pci.zpxe"; # filename = "sis900.zpxe"; # } #} --------------------------------------------------------- uncomment the "if block", and change the MAC vendor prefix to yours. In this example, we use AA:BB:CC like this: --------------------------------------------------------- if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 3) = "PXE" { # ************************************************************** # ***MODIFY*** the MAC vendor prefix of client network card here. # ************************************************************** # For annoying sis900 network card, maybe it's 00:07:95, 00:0C:6E... if substring (hardware, 1, 3) = AA:BB:CC { # eb-5.4.3-etherboot-pci.zpxe is a all-in-one pxe image, works for most NIC. # sis900.zpxe is specially for sis900 NIC. # Try either one. #filename = "eb-5.4.3-etherboot-pci.zpxe"; filename = "sis900.zpxe"; } } --------------------------------------------------------- 4. restart dhcpd service, like "/etc/init.d/dhcpd restart" (RH-like) or "/etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart". 5. Start your annoying sis900 box! It should work now. 2. Clonezilla, from version 1.4.0, is ABLE to save and restore LVM 2 partitions. However, LVM 1 is not supported yet. 3. Some distribution does not install perl-Digest-SHA1. If rpm complains perl-Digest-SHA1 is required, you have to install perl-Digest-SHA1 first. For FC1, install it like: rpm -Uvh http://opensource.nchc.org.tw/fedora/linux/core/1/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/perl-Digest-SHA1-2.01-15.i386.rpm 4. OpenSuSE 10.0 Kernel 2.6.13-15-default in the DRBL server has some BIG problems with NFS lockd. It will cause client won't run OpenOffice.org, rpm, clonezilla and other programs successfully. Errors are like: a. OpenOffice.org ----- Unable to start it or save file ----- b. rpm: ----- linux102:~ # rpm -q drbl error: cannot get shared lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Operation not permitted (1) error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm package drbl is not installed ----- c. clonezilla/partimage: ----- imagefile locked The following imagefile is locked. Do you want to wait and retry or change image filename ? File: /mnt/test.000 To change the filename, please enter a full path (location + filename) without volume number at the end, and press "Change" ----- Solution: 1. Use different kernel in the server, a. the update kernel rpm -ivh ftp://ftp.twaren.net/Linux/SuSE/i386/update/10.0/rpm/i586/kernel-default-2.6.13-15.7.i586.rpm or b. 2.6.11.4-20a-default from SuSE 9.3 is also tested ok. Then reboot the server. 2. Check the bugzilla https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=128784 for more details. 5. Ubuntu Breezy The dhcp3-server 3.0.2-1ubuntu6 in Breezy has a problem with "range" option in dhcpd.conf, i.e. when client request IP address 2nd time before its IP address expires, it will get the different IP address from that gotten in the 1st time. One of the solution: Use the dhcp3-server (dhcp3-server_3.0.3-6ubuntu4) from Dapper. 6. Fedora Core 5 The lftp 3.4.2-5 came with Fedora Core 5 has a bug¡Awhich will cause some problem when it try to browse some URLs. Sometimes it will NOT find kernel rpm for clients when you run drblsrv -i. It is recommended to upgrade the whole system, or at least you upgrade lftp. I386 lftp can be got here: http://free.nchc.org.tw/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/i386/lftp-3.4.7-2.FC5.i386.rpm You can run this command directly to upgrade: yum install lftp or rpm -Uvh http://free.nchc.org.tw/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/i386/lftp-3.4.7-2.FC5.i386.rpm 7. Fedora 7 After an upgrade in Fedora 7, nfs-utils is 1.1.0 and kernel is 2.6.22-1, you will encounter error meeages in DRBL client like: mount.nfs: /etc is already mounted or busy "Starting rpcbind: rpcbind: error while loading shared libraries: libtirpc.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [FAILED]" The solution is not to use kernel 2.6.22 for DRBL client: 1. wget http://os.nchc.org.tw/fedora/linux/releases/7/Fedora/i386/os/Fedora/kernel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.i586.rpm 2. run /opt/drbl/sbin/drblsrv-offline -k kernel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.i586.rpm 3. reboot the client. It should work. 8. Mandriva 2008.1 Mode of udp-receiver and udp-sender in /usr/sbin/ (udpcast-0.0-0.20071228.1mdv2008.1) are wrong: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 47K 2008-02-06 04:37 udp-receiver -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 51K 2008-02-06 04:37 udp-sender Remember to change the mode before you use clonezilla server edition (chmod 755 /usr/sbin/udp-*).
